About

Everyone knows ‘Jurassic Park’: Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel about an extraordinary theme park with recreations of dinosaurs, thanks to genetic engineering. In 1993, the novel was adapted into a classic film by legendary director Steven Spielberg, becoming an entire franchise.
So, what then is “Jurassic Time?”
The name has a dual meaning. For hardcore ‘Jurassic Park’ fans, they may recall it as the title of an audio drama-style memoir for John Parker Hammond, the fictional creator of the park. In 2007, the first incarnation of this project was created by exhuming files of a failed computer game, with actual dialogue from the late actor Richard Attenborough. My purpose was to rescue his performance from being lost to time.

The 1993 ‘Jurassic Park’ production itself had many concept ideas between the novel and the film that were similarly forgotten. For many years, this important exploratory phase of pre-production has been casually skimmed over when discussing how the film was made.
My desire to preserve Jurassic-related stories became Jurassic Time’s primary mission. This was accomplished through creating visual and audio productions, conducting exclusive interviews with members of the film’s creative team, making detailed analytical documents, and even acquiring untouched files from the past.
The biggest and most dramatic presentation on this site that combines all of these factors together is ‘Rick Carter’s Jurassic Park’: an early version of ‘Jurassic Park’ from production designer Rick Carter‘s adaptation of Michael Crichton’s final draft screenplay, brought to life in an entertaining illustrated audio drama. The fact that this project ultimately led to me meeting Rick Carter himself was a truly amazing highlight.
This site also now features over 20 exclusive interviews with key people involved in the ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise who give an unprecedented look into filmmaking. From production designers to film extras, this unique collection of stories is intriguing and educational, featuring rare images throughout.
Various research files are also available, straight from the production and beyond, amounting to a unique collection. This includes the most comprehensive script collection from the franchise assembled online, as well as some special documents analyzing such materials. If that wasn’t enough, additional archival files are available at the Internet Archive.

Dozens of additional videos, loaded with even more exclusive imagery, are available at the YouTube channel. Many of the productions have also been adapted into audio-only versions that can be heard in the podcast.
As Jurassic Time continued to grow, its research and journalism eventually led to my work as a news writer for the most popular Jurassic-related site, Jurassic Outpost, beginning in 2021.
During the 30th anniversary of ‘Jurassic Park’ in 2023, I was asked to consult on its official script book for Insight Editions. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Everything Jurassic Time has stood for led to me being involved with this monumental publication. Several materials I had found over the years, along with my insights, enhanced the book’s content.

Over the years, Jurassic Time has moved through several website hosts and iterations as its projects have evolved. It now continues as a sub-site of Derrick Davis Media, where its extensive archive of Jurassic-related work can be preserved alongside my broader multimedia projects.
I hope ‘Jurassic Park’ fans, and anyone interested in the creative process of filmmaking, enjoy this site’s content. It truly has been a joy to bring it to light.
